Press Release 20 April 2010 - Star Status for Charity Workers and Volunteers! Founder of the Awards, Jenny Warner, of PAS Charity Recruitment welcomed representatives of the five main local sponsors as well as many other sponsors and supporters from across the Wessex region which covers Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Surrey and West Sussex. If you’ve been helped in a special way by an individual or an organisation in the charity sector, now’s your chance to say “thank you” by nominating them for the Wessex Charity Awards 2010, called the “Charity Oscars” last year by the Press. Lots of nominations for the five categories have already been received from a wide range of charities, large and small. All fifteen finalists will have their work showcased at the glittering Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony on Thursday 30 September. 300 people will attend the ceremony in The Winchester Guildhall. Debbie Thrower, the popular TV presenter will introduce the finalists and announce the winners of the five categories: Charity of the Year, Chief Executive of the Year, Fundraising Team of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Trustee Board of the Year. Last year’s Wessex Charity Awards Chief Executive of the Year, Martin Edwards of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice said: “Over the next few weeks we’re going to be hearing a lot from politicians about how they intend to change things in this country, but it’s important to remember that there are many unsung heroes in the charity sector who are already changing society. To listen to Jenny click here Nominations open for the Wessex region’s only ‘Charity Oscars’ Building on the success of last year’s memorable event, nominations are now invited for the prestigious Wessex Charity Awards 2010, regionally acclaimed as the “Charity Oscars”. From 1 March until 30 April, members of the public and charities can nominate their favourite charity or voluntary organisation for awards in 5 categories: Charity of the Year, Chief Executive of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Fundraising Team of the Year and Trustee Board of the Year. The awards are open to organisations, large and small, operating in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West Sussex, West Surrey and Wiltshire. This is an exceptional opportunity for charities to showcase their work across the region and to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of their staff and volunteers. The glittering Gala Reception and Dinner for 300 people will take place on Thursday 30 September 2010 in The Guildhall, Winchester, when the winners of the 5 categories will be presented with their awards. A big 'thank you' to the Hendy Group and we look forward to working with them to bring you the 2010 Awards. ************************************************************************************************************************** 2009 Event - Final Press Release "Wessex Charity Awards a Success"! - Daily Echo The cream of the region’s charities and not-for-profit organisations were rewarded last night, 26 February 2009, for their incredible efforts and vital contribution to the community at a gala black tie dinner at the Hampshire Rose Bowl. Over 200 people from various charities and businesses attended the inaugural Wessex Charity Awards, which was organised by PAS Charity Recruitment. The most prestigious award of the night, sponsored by PAS Charity Recruitment, went to the well-known, Winchester-based children’s hospice, Naomi House. They were crowned Charity of the Year, recognised for a strong sense of identity and a clear sense of purpose across the organisation. Emmaus Hampshire, a homeless charity also in Winchester, won Fundraising Team of the Year, which was sponsored by Hendy Group, for their incredible efforts in raising £2.7m in a 20-month fundraising campaign. Chief Executive of the Year, sponsored by Mazars, was won by Martin Edwards of Julia’s House after he was nominated by staff at the Dorset children’s hospice for his inspirational leadership and his lobbying work on a national scale. Coffin Mew sponsored the Trustee Board of the Year award which went to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Surrey for their immediate impact on reducing operational costs following an implementation of a 5 year strategy, and finally, Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Wave 105, went to the Volunteer Watch at Coastwatch Portland Bill. This organisation is run entirely by volunteers, 60 in all, and they are responsible for managing and fundraising, as well as saving lives. Jenny Warner, Lead Organiser, said: “The night was a fantastic success. There was a real 'feel-good' atmosphere in the room. The awards themselves reinforced what an outstanding job our local charities and volunteers do.” Other finalists on the night were YOU, Jubilee Sailing Trust, braintrust, Elizabeth Foundation, Oakhaven Hospice, Children of Fiji, Wells for India and Worthing Churches Homeless Projects.
